Alex Harden scores 31 as WSU women improve to 3-0 in MVC

Alex Harden tied her career high with 31 points, helping Wichita State beat Missouri State 71-59 in a women’s basketball game Friday in Springfield, Mo.

Harden, a senior from Springfield, Ill., made 12 of 18 shots and handed out seven assists for WSU (12-3, 3-0 MVC). Senior Jamillah Bonner added 19 points.

The first half was close throughout. WSU finished with a 7-1 run in the final two minutes of the half to take a 37-29 lead.

Wichita State led by as many 13 points midway through the second half. Missouri State cut WSU’s lead to 61-55 on a jumper by Kenzie Williams with 7:14 left in the game, but a basket by Harden and a three-pointer from Bonner gave the Shockers an 11-point lead with 5:49 left. The Bears never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Wichita State shot 49.2 percent (29 of 59) and made 6 of 13 three-point shots.

Williams scored 18 for Missouri State (4-10, 1-2).
