Wichita State’s Rangie Bessard wins MVC weekly newcomer honor

Wichita State forward Rangie Bessard earned Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball newcomer of the week honors for the third time this season.

Bessard, a freshman from Rosharon, Texas, scored 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Sunday’s win over Evansville. On Friday, she scored nine points and had 11 rebounds in a win over Southern Illinois.

She also won the award a week ago and on Dec. 21. Teammates Jyar Francis, TaQuandra Mike and Diamond Lockhart previously won the newcomer of the week honor.

Bessard averages 15.3 points and 8.7 rebounds for the Shockers (5-14, 2-6 MVC). WSU plays host to Missouri State at 2 p.m. Saturday at Koch Arena.
