Wichita State’s Bessard named Valley’s top newcomer

Wichita State forward Rangie Bessard earned newcomer of the week honors from the Missouri Valley Conference.

Bessard, a freshman from Rosharon, Texas, averaged 18.7 points and 9.0 rebounds in a 2-1 week for the Shockers (3-7). In wins over Prairie View A&M and North Carolina A&T, she made 17 of 29 shots and averaged 20 points.

WSU plays at Tennessee Tech (3-8) at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
