Wichita State’s Fred VanVleet went through his most rigorous practices since before the Tulsa game on Wednesday and Thursday and considers himself a game-time decision for Saturday’s game at Saint Louis.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” he said. “I was able to complete about 85 percent of practice both days. I was in the majority of the reps in practice, trying to get out there and get a rhythm, see what I can do.”

VanVleet, a senior guard, missed the past four games with a strained left hamstring. He practiced, doing many of the activities, before WSU’s game at Tulsa on Nov. 17. He played 30 minutes in that game, but was clearly hobbled and has not played since.

“We’re at a better place health-wise than we were before the Tulsa game,” he said.

He said he expects to talk to his doctor, who may watch practice, on Friday as part of the decision process.

“We want to make sure it’s the right move,” he said. “We don’t want to do anything that’s risky. If you want to put a term on it, doubtful, hopeful, game-time decision. All of those are pretty accurate.”

WSU (2-4) has lost three straight games for the first time since 2013. Saint Louis (4-2) is coming off Wednesday’s 60-46 loss at home to Morehead State.
