WSU women’s basketball team remains winless

Richmond beat Wichita State’s women’s basketball team 63-50 in the first game at the FIU Turkey Slam Friday afternoon in Miami.

Six Shockers played Friday — Brittany Martin and Marija Pacar are out with injuries, Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage is yet to be cleared to after knee surgery, and transfer Rangie Bessard will be eligible at the semester break after sitting out two semesters per NCAA transfer rules.

WSU was within a point, 16-15, after the opening quarter, but was outscored 17-4 in the second period. Richmond extended its lead to 18 early in the third quarter. WSU got within 42-32 after consecutive three-pointers by Taquandra Mike, but never pulled closer.

Mike led WSU with 14 points while Aundra Stovall and Jyar Francis had 12 points each.

The loss dropped the Shockers (0-4). They will play host Florida International (1-3) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
