Wichita State freshman Jyar Francis named top MVC newcomer

Wichita State freshman Jyar Francis earned Missouri Valley Conference newcomer of the week honors for women’s basketball.

Francis, a forward from Hammond, La., scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in WSU’s 79-54 loss at Creighton on Friday. She made 5 of 10 shots and recorded an assist and a steal.

Drake guard Lizzy Wendell was named player of the week after scoring 16 points in a 74-70 win over Iowa State.
