Pearl River forward will pick Wichita State or Arizona State

Pearl River (Miss.) Community College forward Darrlyn Willis will choose between Wichita State and Arizona State, according to assistant coach Chris Oney.

“He is very, very, very, very close to making an announcement,” Oney said Tuesday. “It could could come as soon as (Wednesday) morning.”

Willis (6-8, 215), who recently visited Arizona State, is averaging 16 points and 9.7 rebounds in No. 12 Pearl River’s 3-0 start. In October, he told Scout.com that he was leaning toward WSU, but wanted to visit other schools, including Mississippi State and Marquette.

Last season, he averaged 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds a game, while making 62.6 percent of his shots and 75.5 percent of his foul shots. Willis, from Madison, Wis., earned All-Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College and All-Region 23 honors.

Two guards are expected to sign with Wichita State during the week-long signing period that begins Wednesday.

C.J. Keyser, from Brewster (N.H.) Academy, said in a text message that he will sign Wednesday. Keyser (6-foot-4, 180 pounds) gave WSU a non-binding commitment in September.

Keyser, from Baltimore, was coached by Kyle Lindsted at Sunrise Christian Academy last year. Lindsted was hired as an assistant coach at WSU in June. Keyser committed to Colorado State while at Sunrise, then decided in July to attend Brewster Academy.

Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College guard Daishon Smith (6-1, 170) gave WSU a non-binding commitment in October. He is averaging 14.5 points, three rebounds and 2.8 assists in four games this season.

Forward Steffon Mitchell, from Shakopee (Minn.) High recently announced on Twitter that he will take a prep school year. Mitchell visited WSU in October.

Baseball additions — WSU baseball expects to sign at least six players.

It has non-binding commitments from Seward County Community College pitcher Adam Keller, Leavenworth pitcher Tommy Barnhouse, shortstop Alex Jackson, of Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus, and pitchers Joe Dittmar of Richmond-Burton (Ill.), lefty Nathan Hawkins of Sunnyvale (Texas) and Preston Snavely of Fort Collins (Colo.).
