Meet the 2015-16 Wichita State women’s basketball team
Rangie Bessard
Height: 6-0
Class: Freshman
Hometown (previous school): Rosharon, Texas (Manvel)
Outside of Lockhart, might be the most gifted offensive player on the team. Bessard will be eligible after the first semester and should immediately become one of the team’s top scorers with the ability to play either forward position, as well.
Jaleesa Chapel
Height: 5-9
Class: Junior
Hometown (previous school): Spring, Texas (DeKaney)
The most experienced player returning from last season’s team. She has the defensive mindset to star for Adams, but hasn’t shown the offense in the past to be a two-way player for WSU.
Jyar Francis
Height: 6-1
Class: Freshman
Hometown (previous school): Hammond, La. (Ponchatoula)
A highly-regarded recruit who comes with a 6-1 frame but prefers to play along the perimeter. Adams wants to familiarize her more with the paint, but Francis could contribute immediately with her three-point shooting.
Ellie Lehne
Height: 6-2
Class: Freshman
Hometown (previous school): Byron, Ill. (Byron)
One of the most versatile forwards Adams has brought in, as the 6-2 freshman could play either forward position. She has the ability to stretch the defense out to the three-point line and has the height to defend posts down low.
Diamond Lockhart
Height: 5-5
Class: Sophomore
Hometown (previous school): Red Oak, Texas (Red Oak)
Transfer from Texas Tech who is expected to immediately become the team’s best player. A natural playmaker who will be a difference maker at both ends of the court.
Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage
Height: 6-2
Class: Freshman
Hometown (previous school): Santa Fe, N.M. (Santa Fe)
Still recovering from an injury suffered as a senior in high school that will likely hold her out until the new year. Might be the most versatile forward Adams signed in the offseason.
Brittany Martin
Height: 6-3
Class: Junior
Hometown (previous school): Queensvillage, N.Y. (Bishop Ford)
The most improved player over the summer, according to Adams. Already a disruptive defensive force, Martin, at 6-3 and the athletic ability to run the court, could be a difference maker for WSU if she can develop any reliable moves in the post.
TaQuandra Mike
Height: 5-9
Class: Junior
Hometown (previous school): Savannah, Ga. (Groves)
Should make an impact right away with her dead-eye shooting ability and tenaciousness on the defensive end. Still a raw athlete entering as a junior, but her potential is extremely high.
Marija Pacar
Height: 6-0
Class: Junior
Hometown (previous school): Podstrana, Croatia
Junior-college transfer who will be counted upon to shore up the wing depth on the team. A versatile player who can defend multiple positions and brings intelligence to the court.
Aundra Stovall
Height: 5-2
Class: Sophomore
Hometown (previous school): Arlington, Texas (Seguin)
Diminutive, pass-first point guard who has reportedly improved her shot to become more of a threat on offense. Has the willingness to defend and the motor that can initiate the offense at the desired pace that Adams wants to play.
