Wichita State sprinter earns silver medal in Paralympic World Championships

Wichita State’s Deja Young won a silver medal in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.08 seconds in the Paralympic World Championships in Qatar.

Cuba’s Yunidis Castillo won the race with a time of 25.43 seconds.

Young, a sophomore at WSU, will run the 100-meter prelims on Thursday.

She advanced to the finals of the 200 with a time of 25.97.

Young, from Mesquite, Texas, was born with a deformity in her right shoulder, resulting from nerve damage. She was a member of WSU’s 400-meter relay team that placed 16th last spring in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
