Wichita State’s Ron Baker earns MVC player of the week honors

Wichita State junior guard Ron Baker earned Missouri Valley Conference player of the week honors after helping the Shockers defeat Memphis and Newman.

Baker, from Scott City, averaged 19.5 points, 4 assists and 3.5 rebounds in the two games. He made 6 of 12 three-pointers and 12 of 24 shots. Tuesday, he scored 21 points and handed out six assists in WSU’s 71-56 win over Memphis in Sioux Falls, S.D.

It is his third weekly honor from the MVC.

Illinois State junior DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell earned newcomer of the week honors. He averaged 16 points in wins over Weber State and Old Dominion.
