Wichita State volleyball sweeps Indiana State

Wichita State remained tied for second in the Missouri Valley Conference after a 3-0 victory at Indiana State on Friday.

The Shockers (19-8, 13-4 MVC) need a win over first-place Illinois State on Saturday and a loss by Northern Iowa to secure the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, which comes with a bye into the semifinals. Northern Iowa (19-10, 13-4) swept Bradley on Friday and plays at seventh-place Loyola on Saturday. UNI owns the tiebreaker over the Shockers after sweeping the regular-season series.

On Friday, WSU swept its 11th MVC opponent (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) with MaryAshton Floyd recording a career-high 21 kills. She added 13 digs for her first double-double and hit .367. Ashlyn Driskill had 14 kills with a .440 attack percentage. Setter Emily Hiebert had 42 assists and Dani Mostrom contributed 14 digs.

In the third set, Indiana State (17-12m 9-8) led 11-5 before the Shockers rallied. Floyd’s kill tied the match 17-all and another kill by her gave WSU its first lead at 23-22. Mostrom’s service ace ended the match.

WSU defeated the Sycamores for the 26th straight time.
