Wichita State’s Brady Johnson sets 8-kilometer record in Arkansas
Wichita State junior Brady Johnson broke the school’s 23-year-old — to the day — 8-kilometer record with a time of 23 minutes, 54.16 seconds on Saturday at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
Johnson, from Plainville, broke Mornay Annandale’s mark of 24:09.72, set on Oct. 3, 1992. Johnson finished eighth and helped WSU to a third-place finish behind champion and host Arkansas and Tulsa. WSU’s Paul Raymond finished 27th with a time of 24:32.06.
Tulsa’s Marc Scott won the race with a time of 23:30.90.
Wichita State’s women finished fourth, trailing Arkansas, Abilene Christian and Tulsa. WSU’s Sidney Hirsch finished 27th with a time of 17:14.59 in the 5-kilometer race. Rebekah Topham placed 31st with a time of 17:20.58.
Arkansas’ Dominique Scott won the women’s race with a time of 16:07.18.
