Wichita State’s Tekele Cotton signs with German professional team
Former Wichita State basketball player Tekele Cotton will play for MHP REISEN Ludwigsburg, the German team announced on Tuesday.
He will be one of three rookies to play in the EuroCup this season, according to agent Justin Haynes of Worldwide Sports Marketing. MHP REISEN also plays in the Bundesliga, Germany’s first-tier league. EuropCup is the second tier of professional basketball in Europe. Cotton is in training camp with the team.
“Tekele is a very good defensive player who brings us new quality on the wing,” coach John Patrick said in a news release, translated from German. “The local defense system is quite similar (to WSU’s), so there should be a rapid familiarization process for Tekele.”
Cotton, a 6-foot-3 guard, averaged 9.8 points as a senior at WSU and earned a second Defensive Player of the Year honor from the Missouri Valley Conference. He played for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA’s summer league.
On Monday, former Shockers center Darius Carter announced his move to Vita Tbilisi in the Republic of Georgia.
