Abbie Lehman leads Wichita State to volleyball sweep of Idaho
Sophomore middle Abbie Lehman completed a strong opening weekend with 10 kills in Wichita State’s sweep (25-16, 25-22, 25-18) of Idaho in the finale of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
Lehman totaled 39 kills in WSU’s three matches, including a career-high 17 in Saturday’s loss to No. 18 Hawaii. She hit .515 with four errors in 68 attempts. Freshman Shimen Fayad made a strong debut with 28 kills, 19 digs and a team-leading four aces in three matches. Junior Jody Larson, a transfer from Oklahoma, added 21 kills and 28 digs in the tournament.
Setter Emily Hiebert recorded 30 assists and 13 digs in the win over Idaho (0-3). WSU (2-1) hit .327 and outblocked Idaho 18-4, with Lehman leading with six. The Shockers held the Vandals to a .114 attack percentage.
DeVonne Rtyer led Idaho with nine kills.
WSU plays Abilene Christian and New Mexico State on Friday in the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station.
