Temple transfer Dillon Battie takes recruiting visit to Wichita State

After considering Wichita State coming out of high school, Dillon Battie is giving the Shockers another chance.

The Dallas native and former top-150 recruit in the class of 2024 completed an official visit to WSU on Tuesday, according to a source within the program. Battie also posted pictures from his visit on Instagram on Tuesday evening.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward just completed his freshman season at Temple, where he played sparingly and averaged 3.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in just 7.8 minutes per game. After entering the portal in late March, WSU was among a dozen schools that reached out, a list that also included SMU, Washington and Stanford.

Battie was slated to take an official visit to WSU in September 2023, but did not end up on campus. He did end up touring Koch Arena with WSU head coach Paul Mills this time around, as WSU appears to be in the mix for his services in the transfer portal.

The appeal of Battie is obvious: He’s an elite athlete with a 6-8 frame that showed signs of a smooth outside stroke playing for Team Trae Young on the Adidas 3-Stripes Select Basketball circuit in 2023. That was enough to draw attention from power-conference programs such as Illinois, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Washington and Washington State. WSU was among the teams who offered him out of high school in June 2023.

Battie also comes from a rich basketball history. His father, Derrick, was a 6-10 forward who was a 4-year starter for Temple from 1992-96, while his uncle, Tony, was a 6-11 center drafted No. 5 overall in the 1997 NBA Draft and played 15 seasons in the NBA.

After plucking UNC Greensboro guard Kenyon Giles and East Tennessee State wing Karon Boyd from the transfer portal, WSU is now on the hunt to add to its frontcourt depth. Battie is in the mold of the prototypical power forward in the American Athletic Conference and could offer upside as a player with multiple years of eligibility remaining.
