Former Wichita State runner Kellyn Taylor earns bronze in 5,000 meters
Former Wichita State runner Kellyn Taylor won the bronze medal in the women’s 5,000 meters on Tuesday at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.
Her time of 15 minutes, 52.78 seconds made her the top American in the field. Brazil’s Julia Dos Santos won with a time of 15:45.97. Mexico’s Brenda Flores finished second with a time of 15:47.19.
Taylor ran at WSU from 2007-09 after transferring from Cloud County Community College. She finished third in the indoor mile in the 2009 NCAA Championships and 10th in the 5,000 in the NCAA outdoor meet. She holds WSU records in the indoor mile (4:35.35) and the outdoor 800 (2:06.12) and 1,500 (4:16.72).
Taylor, from Sussex, Wis., lives and trains in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Former Shocker Austin Bahner, from Heights, begins the men’s decathlon on Wednesday.
