For the first time since 2016, the Wichita State men’s basketball team is slated for a foreign exhibition tour this summer when the Shockers head to Greece from Aug. 1-10.

The timing couldn’t be better, as first-year head coach Paul Mills and his mostly-new roster of players will have the chance to build chemistry before fall practices begin in September.

Not only will WSU play three games against international competition — dates and opponents will be announced at a later date — but the team will also make use of 10 extra practices in the days leading up to the trip.

“I’m thankful for this opportunity to take our team to Greece,” Mills said in a release. “These summer months preparing for our games will ignite chemistry and lay a critical foundation for the approaching season. It’s also a phenomenal cultural opportunity, giving our players exposure to the people and rich heritage of Greece.”

The trip will include stops in Thessaloniki, Athens, Kalampaka and Corinth for site-seeing opportunities at world-famous landmarks like the Acropolis, the Parthenon, Meteora and the Isthmus of Corinth.

WSU was last scheduled for a foreign trip before the 2020-21 season, but the plans to play in Denmark and Spain were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. WSU last took a foreign tour in 2016 when it played in Canada with stops in Montreal and Toronto, while past teams have also visited Vancouver and British Colombia (2006) and Brazil (2011).
