Report: WSU to face USC
Wichita State’s men’s basketball team will play Southern California in the AdvoCare Invitational in November in Orlando, according to CBSSports.com.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, citing several sources, writes that WSU-USC, Xavier-Alabama, Notre Dame-Monmouth and Dayton-Iowa are the matchups for Nov. 26 at HP Field House. WSU is scheduled to face either Alabama or Xavier in the second round on Nov. 27. Final games are on Nov. 29.
Notre Dame, which eliminated WSU from the NCAA Tournament in March, is on the opposite side of the bracket.
Alabama and Iowa are also familiar opponents for WSU. The Shockers swept a regular-season series from Alabama the past two seasons and defeated the Tide in the 2011 NIT. Alabama defeated WSU in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off early in the 2011-12 season. The Shockers defeated Iowa in the 2009 CBE Classic in Kansas City and the 2012 Cancun Challenge.
Southern Cal is coached by Andy Enfield, who took Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet 16 in 2013. Southern Cal went 12-20 last season and finished with an RPI ranked No. 198. Five starters return and recruits Chimezie Metu and Bennie Boatwright, both 6-foot-9 forwards from California, are ranked in the top 100 of 2015 recruits by ESPN.com.
The Trojans went 11-21 in Enfield’s first season.
