Wichita State basketball hosts 5-star recruit Dink Pate, five other prospects on visit
One day before the start of the 2022-23 season, the Wichita State men’s basketball team played host to a five-star recruit and five other Texas high school prospects at Koch Arena for the day on Sunday.
Dink Pate, a 6-foot-8 point guard from Dallas, is one of the most sought-after recruits in the class of 2024 and rated by Rivals as the No. 18 prospect in the country. He has earned a scholarship offer from more than two dozen high-major programs and has taken official visits to UCF and Georgetown and unofficial visits to Houston, Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma State.
Wichita State can now be added to the list of growing suitors, as the Shockers played host to Pate for an unofficial visit on Sunday. Along with the other recruits, Pate toured WSU’s facilities, met with head coach Isaac Brown and watched the Shockers practice a day ahead of their season-opener against Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. Monday at Koch Arena.
Wichita State assistant coach Tyson Waterman has spearheaded the recruiting effort and was able to convince Pate, who stars for Pinkston High School in Dallas, to visit just days after offering him a scholarship.
But that wasn’t all: Waterman also tapped into his connection with BigTyme Sports Prep Academy in Rockwall, Texas to bring five of their up-and-coming players to Wichita for unofficial visits.
The lone 2024 target was Daniel Vieira-Tuck, a 6-4 guard and three-star prospect who is also being recruited by West Virginia. The other recruits who were in Wichita included a pair of 2025 prospects in 5-11 guard Dailon Minor and 6-6 wing Isaiah Stewart and two 2027 recruits in 6-8 forward Kamsi Nwosu and 6-0 guard Mason Shephard.
Texas A&M has also offered Minor and Stewart, while WSU was the first major Div. I offer for both Nwosu and Shephard.
Wichita State currently has one future commitment on its recruiting board: Makhi Myles, a 6-6 wing from Starkville, Miss. who is rated as a three-star prospect in the class of 2023.
