Missouri State holds off Wichita State volleyball in five
Wichita State rallied to force a fifth set at Missouri State on Friday night, but the Bears won the final set 15-10 to claim the Missouri Valey Conference match.
Abbie Lehman had 16 kills and freshman Jenny Whitledge had 15 for the Shockers, who fell out of a third-place MVC tie with Missouri State. WSU is 10-7 overall, 4-3 in the Valley. Missouri State is 11-7, 5-2.
Wichita State won the opening set 26-24, then saw the Bears claim the next two 25-20, 25-18. The Shockers led most of the fourth set, clinching the game on a Katie Reilly kill.
Missouri State trailed 3-1 in the fifth set before scoring five straight points. WSU got a point back after a time-out, but Missouri State scored seven of the next nine points for a 13-6 advantage.
Wichita State is off until beginning a road trip to Southern Illinois and Evansville next Friday in Carbondale, Ill.
