For the first time in program history, the Wichita State softball team has multiple All-Americans on the same team.

Sydney McKinney and Addison Barnard both earned second-team All-American honors from National Fastpitch Coaches Association, a list that was published on Wednesday. WSU was one of just 13 programs to have multiple All-American selections as voted on by coaches from all across the country.

McKinney, a junior shortstop, became the first two-time All-American in school history after earning the program’s first NFCA All-American honor as a third-team selection in 2021.

The Norborne, Missouri native led the country in hitting with her .522 batting average, which finished as the 16th-best season in NCAA history. She was named a top-10 finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year and shattered the program’s single-season records in batting average, hits (97), on-base percentage (.566) and runs (97).

For Barnard, it was her first NFCA All-American honor, following a superb sophomore season in the outfield where she was named the 2022 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Barnard finished with 33 home runs, third-most in NCAA history, while her 0.63 home runs per game mark set a NCAA single-season record. The Beatrice, Nebraska native led the country in home runs and RBIs (84) this season and added 25 stolen bases, becoming the only player in NCAA history to post a season of at least 30 home runs and 25 stolen bases. She owns the program’s single-season records in home runs, RBI, total bases, stolen bases and slugging percentage.
