Wichita State-SMU men’s basketball game postponed yet again, this time by bad weather
Maybe the Wichita State and SMU men’s basketball teams are just not meant to play again.
Yet another matchup between the two programs has been postponed, the American Athletic Conference announced, this time because of inclement weather in both Wichita and Dallas that prevented the Shockers from traveling on Wednesday in preparation for a game that had been rescheduled for 6 p.m. tip Thursday at Moody Coliseum.
It marks the sixth straight time in the last two seasons WSU and SMU have postponed a game, delaying their first meeting since the Shockers’ historic 24-point, second-half comeback at Moody Coliseum in a 66-62 win on March 1, 2020.
SMU was the culprit all four times last season, as COVID-19 issues within the Mustangs’ program prevented the two NCAA Tournament hopefuls from playing. And earlier this year, it was WSU’s own COVID-19 issues that forced a postponement. Now, the weather has intervened.
WSU is fresh off a 58-48 win over Tulsa and if fate will have it, the Shockers and Mustangs will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday with WSU looking for its third straight AAC win on the schedule at Koch Arena in a game broadcast on ESPN2.
With few open dates remaining, it seems unlikely WSU will be able to reschedule all three of its current postponements, all road games, at Temple, East Carolina and SMU.
