Ted Woodward tabbed as new WSU men’s basketball PA announcer, following late Don Hall
A familiar voice to Shocker fans will be filling Koch Arena at Wichita State men’s basketball games.
Ted Woodward, the longtime public address announcer for WSU baseball and volleyball games, will now become the public address announcer at men’s basketball games, the school announced Thursday.
Woodward, who has been a popular radio personality in Wichita for the past 25 years, has also hosted the Shocker Locker Room postgame show following WSU men’s basketball games since 1995.
He will follow in the footsteps of Don Hall, who was killed in a car accident on April 29 and was WSU’s men’s basketball public address announcer for the past 37 years. He only missed two home games during that span with Woodward filling in for him on both occasions.
“I have been very honored to help out at baseball, volleyball and women’s basketball games for all these years,” Woodward said in the statement. “Likewise, it’s an honor to step in for Don Hall as we make this transition. I started attending games in the Cheese Johnson Era, sitting with my dad in Section V. I’m now looking forward to watching the Shockers from the PA seat.”
Woodward was inducted into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 and can be heard weekdays on KNSS, 1330 AM radio, where he co-hosts “Steve and Ted in the Morning.” In 2017, the duo were awarded the Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters, a prestigious award for being two of the country’s most outstanding on-air personalities.
Woodward, a Kapaun Mount Carmel graduate, is also an accomplished thespian, having won a Mary Jane Teall Award in 2018 for “Best Actor in Musical” while playing the role of John Adams in “1776.” He also writes for and performs annually in the Wichita satirical revue “Gridiron.”
