Dallas Baptist’s bats arrive in rout of Indiana State

Second-seeded Dallas Baptist hit .133 and scored three runs in its first two games in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

That did not figure to last. On Friday, the 11th-ranked Patriots battered six Indiana State pitchers for a 14 hits in a 12-5 win in an elimination game at Eck Stadium.

“With the offense we’ve had and the success they’ve had, you knew it was just a matter of time,” Patriots coach Dan Heefner said.

The Patriots (43-12) play third-seeded Bradley later on Friday. They must beat the Braves twice to advance to Saturday’s championship game. Seventh-seeded Indiana State (28-26) opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over Dallas Baptist. On Thursday, it led Bradley 4-2 in the ninth inning before a three-run home run sent the Sycamores into the losers bracket.

Dallas Baptist catcher Daniel Salters homered and drove in four runs. Left fielder Justin Wall also homered, his 10th of the season.

The Patriots scored six runs in the fifth inning. Trooper Reynolds drove in two with a double and Salters homered to drive in two more.

Left fielder Connor McClain went 3 for 4 for Indiana State with a run and an RBI.
