The Wichita State men’s golf team came up two strokes short of advancing to the NCAA championship round, placing sixth at the San Diego Regional on Saturday at The Palms Golf Club.
The Shockers shot 286 in the final round after going for 292 in the first round and 298 in the second round on the par-72 course. The first five teams at the regional advanced to the NCAA championship round in Bradenton, Fla., May 29-June 3.
Oklahoma took first with a three-dround score of 843, beating second-place Arizona State by 20 strokes. Virginia finished fifth with 874, just ahead of WSU.
WSU sophomore Grant Bennett finished tied for seventh after shooting 72 in the final round for a three-round total of 214. Senior Louis Cohen Boyer finished tied for 14th after a 1-under 71 in the final round.

Freshman Gage Ihrig finished tied for 25th, freshman Conrad Walcher finished tied for 68th and junior Alec Heinen finished tied for 71st.
