Wichita State women’s golf team heads to Raleigh, N.C.
Wichita State’s women’s golf team is the No. 17 seed in the NCAA Regional in Raleigh, N.C.
The Shockers earned the Missouri Valley Conference’s automatic bid and are making their second consecutive NCAA trip. The regional begins May 7 at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
South Carolina is the No. seed in the 18-team field, followed by Louisiana State, Mississippi State, Northwestern and Florida.
Last spring, the Shockers finished 22nd in the 24-team NCAA Central Regional field in Stillwater, Okla.
Cohen Boyer leads Valley tournament — WSU’s men’s golf team leads the MVC Championships by 21 shots after the first two rounds in Sunrise Beach, Mo.
WSU carded a first-round 287 followed by a 286. Northern Iowa is second with a 594 with third-place Evansville three shots back.
WSU’s Louis Cohen Boyer shot an 8-under-par 136 to lead the field, five strokes ahead of teammate Conrad Walcher. Cohen Boyer and Walcher both shot a first-round 67. Loyola’s Garret Buckley is third with a 142.
WSU’s Grant Bennett is tied for seventh at 148 and Grant Bishop is in 15th place with a 150. Alec Heinen is tied for 21st with a 153.
The tournament finishes with 18 holes on Tuesday at The Club at Porto Cima. The Shockers have won seven straight MVC titles.
