Wichita State softball sweeps Evansville
Wichita State completed a sweep of Evansville with a 5-2 win on Sunday at Wilkins Stadium.
Katie Malone and Jenni Brooks combined to hold the Aces to six hits and no walks.
WSU (32-21, 14-10 Missouri Valley Conference) won its fourth straight game and seventh in the past eight. The Shockers end the regular season with a game at Kansas on Tuesday and their final regular-season MVC series at Loyola.
After Evansville (10-42, 2-21) took a 2-0 lead, the Shockers scored three runs in the fourth inning. Kelli Spring led off with a triple and she stole home. Mackenzie Wright scored on an error. Melanie Jaegers’ single drove in Macklin Hitz to give WSU a 3-2 lead.
Brittany Fortner went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI. Brooks threw three scoreless innings in relief, striking out five and allowing one hit.
