Wichita State softball sweeps Evansville

Wichita State routed Evansville in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday at Wilkins Stadium, winning 6-2 and 8-0 in five innings.

The Shockers (31-21, 13-10 Missouri Valley Conference) passed the 30-win mark for a second straight season. WSU has won six of its past seven games.

Kelli Spring went 4 for 6 and scored three runs in the doubleheader. Mackenzie Wright drove in three runs and scored a run. Pitcher Katie Malone held Evansville (10-41, 2-20) to five hits and struck out three in the first game.

Jenni Brooks allowed four hits and struck out two in the nightcap. Macklin Hitz and Michelle Dixon homered.

The teams finish the series with a single game at noon Sunday.
