Wichita State’s Nikki Larch-Miller qualifies for NCAA heptathlon

Wichita State sophomore Nikki Larch-Miller qualified in the heptathlon for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a score of 5,812 points on Thursday in the Mt. SAC Relays and California Invitational in Azusa, Calif.

Larch-Miller’s total ranks No. 6 in the NCAA this year and is second in WSU history, behind Tanya Friesen’s 5,899 in 2013. Larch-Miller will be one of 24 athletes competing in the national meet in Eugene, Ore., on June 10.

Thursday, she finished second in the javelin with a throw of 129 feet, 9 inches and third in the long jump (19-7 1/2). Wednesday, she set at WSU record with a time of 23.23 seconds in the 200-meter dash and won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.63 seconds.

Over the past three weeks, she also set WSU’s record in the 100 (11.44), 200 (23.23) and 100-meter hurdles (13.29).
