Wichita State-Newman basketball game raises $45,000 for charity
More than 5,300 in attendance at Koch Arena on Nov. 6 for the Wichita State-Newman charity men’s basketball game helped raise $45,000 to donate to the American Red Cross to assist with hurricane and other disaster relief efforts.
Wichita State won the exhibition 113-55.
“The generosity of Wichitans never ceases to amaze me,” WSU athletic director Darron Boatright said in a press release. “We’re grateful to the 5,300-plus fans who showed up, on short notice, to cheer on the Shockers and Jets and support a very worthy cause.”
Newman athletic director Vic Trilli was also thrilled with the total amount raised after expenses.
“This just goes to show what the people and community of Wichita are able to do when they put their minds together for a common cause, and Newman University is incredibly proud to have been a part of it,” Trilli said in the release.
