Wichita States moves up one spot to No. 6 in the AP poll
The Wichita State men’s basketball team is already on the rise in the latest Associated Press poll released on Monday.
Despite winning both games, Kentucky was docked two spots after defeating Utah Valley and Vermont by a combined 14 points over the weekend. That opened the door for Wichita State to move up to No. 6, while Duke, Michigan State, Arizona, Kansas, and Villanova rounded out the top five.
The Shockers defeated Missouri-Kansas City 109-57 on Friday and play College of Charleston on Monday night.
Wichita State’s highest ranking this week was No. 3, on two ballots, while Doug Doughty of the Roanoke Times (Va.) had the Shockers the lowest on his ballot at No. 15. Fifty-five of the 65 ballots had Wichita State ranked between No. 5 and No. 8.
KenPom ranking moving up — The Shockers also moved up in Ken Pomeroy’s early-season rankings, as they moved up from No. 4 to No. 2 following their victory over UMKC.
Willis honored — Wichita State senior Darral Willis was named on the American Athletic Conference’s honor roll for his performance in the season-opening win over UMKC. Willis recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes and made 6 of 11 shots.
