Wichita State Shockers

Wichita State volleyball closes in on AAC title with 16th straight win

The winning streak is up to 16 games.

No. 20 Wichita State delivered its fifth straight sweep with a 3-0 victory at Cincinnati, 25-10, 25-22, 25-20, as the Shockers improved to 24-3 overall and 16-0 in the American Athletic Conference. Wichita State has won all but five sets — 48 of 53 — in conference play.

WSU can secure a share of the conference title with a win at Tulsa this Friday and can win it outright two days later in Dallas against Southern Methodist.

The match on Sunday against Cincinnati provided some milestone marks for WSU’s players, as senior middle blocker Abbie Lehman registered her 500th career block and senior setter Emily Hiebert recorded her 100th career service ace.

Lehman once again led WSU with 12 kills and nine blocks with a .400 hitting percentage, while Tabitha Brown added nine kills and Mikaela Raudsepp had seven. Hiebert finished with 32 assists and libero Giorgia Civita had a team-high 14 digs.

The Shockers can expect to move up when the latest AVCA poll is released on Monday, as No. 15 Utah, No. 16 Oregon, No. 18 UCLA and No. 19 Colorado State all lost this week.
