No. 23 Wichita State (7-2) lost its second consecutive volleyball match, falling to Cal Poly 3-2 after winning the first two sets (23-25, 21-25, 28-26, 25-16, 15-9) on Saturday at the Nike Classic in Eugene, Ore.
The Shockers won 4 of 5 points to take a 24-23 lead in the third set, but couldn’t get match point.
Emily Hiebert finished the match with 53 assists, and passed the 4,000-assist mark for her career in the second set.
Tabitha Brown had 23 kills and hit .420, Abbie Lehman had 15 kills and six blocks, and Giorgia Civita had a career-high 31 digs.

On Friday night, No. 14 Oregon cruised past Wichita State 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-12) on Friday night, ending WSU’s seven-match win streak. Oregon (6-1) never trailed after taking a lead midway through the first set. The loss ended WSU’s best season-opening streak since the 2008 team went 29-0.
The Shockers will play their first home matches of the season next weekend during the Shocker Volleyball Classic, playing host to No. 9 Creighton at 7 p.m. Friday and No. 22 Iowa State next Sunday.
