Host city chosen for Shockers’ future conference tournaments
The American Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday that Fort Worth has been selected to host the conference’s men’s basketball tournament for three years, starting in 2020.
The tournament will be held in Dickies Arena, a venue currently under construction and slated to open in November of 2019. The building will seat 14,000 spectators.
“We are delighted to partner with the city of Fort Worth and Dickies Arena for our 2020-22 Men’s Basketball Championships,” said American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco in a news release.
“This three-year agreement will bring our Men's Championship to a vibrant, sports-minded community that embraces major events and extends wonderful hospitality to visitors. Dickies Arena is a state-of-the-art facility that our student- athletes, coaches and fans, as well as a national television audience, will enjoy.”
The American Athletic Conference basketball tournament is scheduled for Orlando in 2018 and Memphis in 2019.
This season will be Wichita State’s inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference and the first time the team has played in a conference tournament outside of St. Louis since 1991.
The dates of the Fort Worth tournament’s will be March 12-15, 2020; March 11-14, 2021; and March 10-13, 2022.
