Wichita State’s Jacobs earns spot on MVC academic team

Wichita State senior Kelsey Jacobs was named to the Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball Scholar-Athlete team.

Jacobs, a center from Fortuna, Calif., carries a 4.0 grade-point average in graduate studies in sports management and a 3.74 GPA in exercise science. She was a second-team choice last season.

Junior Alie Decker was named to the second team with a 3.51 GPA in exercise science.

Jacobs averages 8.3 points and 5.1 rebounds and started all 30 games. Decker, from Edmond, Okla., averages 8.8 points and 3.5 rebounds.

WSU junior Michaela Dapprich was named MVC player of the week after averaging 16 points, 7 rebounds and 2.5 steals in wins over Evansville and Indiana State. She recorded her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds at Indiana State.

WSU (26-4) opens play in the MVC Tournament at noon Friday in St. Charles, Mo. The top-seeded Shockers play either No. 8 Bradley or No. 9 Loyola.
