WSU women win on road, win Valley title outright
Wichita State beat Evansville 77-63 on Thursday in Evansville, Ind., guaranteeing the Shockers will have the Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball regular-season title to themselves.
WSU (25-4, 16-1 MVC) clinched at least a share of the title with a win Sunday.
Jamillah Bonner scored a team-high 19 points for the Shockers and Michaela Dapprish added 18 points and 11 rebounds. Wichita State’s starters combined for 70 points.
WSU never trailed in the game, and opened a double-digit lead, 18-6, with 11:56 left in the first half. The lead grew to 39-20 late in the first half, and WSU stretched it 22 early in the second half. Evansville never got closer that 13 points the rest of the way.
The Shockers finish the regular season on Saturday at Indiana State, and will be the No. 1 seed in the MVC Tournament in St. Charles, Mo. with their first game next Friday.
