WSU women end four-game losing streak

Jeliah Preston hit five three-pointers and helped Wichita State’s women snap a four-game losing streak with an 87-73 win over Northeastern on Saturday at the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico.

The Shockers scored 35 point in the first quarter, shooting 76 percent and hitting five threes-pointers – three by Preston – while building a 21-point lead. Northeastern closed the gap to 47-32 at halftime, but WSU reopened a 20-point gap by the end of the third quarter.

Preston, a junior from Houston, and senior TaQuandra Mike led the Shockers with 17 points apiece. Mike scored all her points in the first three quarters.

WSU played without leading scorer Rangie Bessard, who was injured during Friday’s loss to Stanford. WSU has not revealed the nature or extent of Bessard’s injury.
