Harden leads Shockers past Southern Illinois

Alex Harden scored 25 points to lead Wichita State to a 69-61 win over Southern Illinois on Sunday in Carbondale, Ill.

Harden now needs just 54 points to break WSU’s career scoring record.

The Shockers also got a lift from Jamillah Bonner’s 15 points and 12 points from Kelsey Jacobs.

WSU (22-4, 13-1 MVC) shot 52.5 percent from the field, connection on 32 of 61 field goals. The teams changed leads eight times in the first 12 minutes, with SIU (15-11, 8-7) going up 15-10 at the 14:48 mark. The Shockers answered later in the half, with a 14-0 run for a 32-22 lead.

The Shockers now return to Wichita for the final two home games of the season — against Drake on Friday and Northern Iowa on Sunday, for Senior Day. WSU’s lone MVC loss came at the hands of Drake.
