Wichita State’s Hiebert, Lehman claim MVC volleyball honors
Wichita State’s Emily Hiebert and Abbie Lehman earned weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Conference.
Hiebert, a junior setter from Newton, was named player of the week after averaging 12.4 assists and 2.4 digs a set in a 3-0 week. She hit .591 and averaged 1.5 kills a set, helping the Shockers hit .316 in wins over Southern Illinois, Indiana State and Southern Illinois.
It is the first player of the week honor for Hiebert.
Lehman, a junior middle from Newton, was named defensive player of the week. She averaged 1.6 blocks and 2.0 kills a set, including eight blocks in a sweep at Illinois State on Sunday. WSU held its three opponents to a .184 attack percentage.
WSU (15-5, 8-1 MVC) moved up eight spots in the NCAA RPI rankings to No. 32 after its three wins. The Shockers are 3-3 vs. teams in the top 50, with wins over No. 27 Creighton, No. 30 Marquette and No. 41 Colorado State. Its top-50 losses are to No. 2 Texas, No. 45 Cincinnati and No. 49 Iowa State.
Three other MVC schools are in the top 100 — No. 52 SIU, No. 57 Northern Iowa and No. 63 Missouri State.
The Shockers play Missouri State on Friday at Koch Arena.
