Saturday’s Kansas small-college football games
MIAA
No. 6 Pittsburg State (9-1, 9-1) at Central Oklahoma (8-2, 8-2), 2 p.m. — The stakes are high for both teams. A win guarantees Pittsburg State at least a share of the MIAA title and an NCAA Division II playoff berth. A win by Central Oklahoma, along with a Washburn upset of No. 7 Northwest Missouri, creates a three-way tie for the MIAA title between the Bronchos, Pitt State and Northwest Missouri.
Central Oklahoma coach Nick Bobeck led Navarro College to the NJCAA title in 2010, defeating Butler Community College ... in the Citizens Bank Bowl in Pittsburg.
Other games
Emporia State (4-6, 4-6) at Neb.-Kearney (2-8, 2-8), 1 p.m.
Lindenwood (1-9, 1-9) at Northeastern State (0-10, 0-10), 1 p.m.
Missouri Western (6-4, 6-4) at Missouri Southern (4-6, 4-6), 1 p.m.
Washburn (4-6, 4-6) at No. 7 Northwest Missouri (9-1, 9-1), 1 p.m.
Fort Hays State (6-4, 6-4) at Central Missouri (7-3, 7-3), 1:30 p.m.
KCAC
No. 14 Ottawa (8-2, 7-1) at No. 18 Tabor (7-3, 5-3), 1:30 p.m. — Ottawa can clinch the KCAC title with a win, and Tabor can likely clinch a berth in the NAIA playoffs with a win. Ottawa QB Michael Behr is second in the KCAC in total offense with 2,348 yards and is a threat to beat teams with his arm (1,861 passing yards) or feet (487 rushing yards).
Saint Mary (4-6, 4-4) at No. 24 Friends (7-3, 6-2), 1:30 p.m. — Friends clings to the hope that, with a win over Saint Mary and a Tabor loss, they could receive an at-large bid to the NAIA playoffs despite last week’s 42-7 loss at Ottawa. A three-loss team in the NAIA playoffs isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Last year, St. Ambrose and Georgetown both made it in with 7-3 records.
