Saturday’s small-college games

Jayhawk

Independence (0-9, 0-6) at Hutchinson (9-1, 6-0), 1 p.m. – The Blue Dragons get one of the worst teams in the country, and they’ll need to put as many points on them as possible to help along an outside shot at playing for the NJCAA title.

If Hutchinson were to get that shot, it would need at least two of the top three teams in the country to lose on Saturday, the final weekend of the regular season.

That might seem far-fetched … until you learn who they’re playing. No. 1 Iowa Western (10-0) gets a rivalry game at Iowa Central (4-6), No. 2 East Mississippi (10-0) plays at No. 10 Copiah-Lincoln (8-2) in the MACJC Championship and No. 3 Trinity Valley (10-0) is at No. 13 Tyler (8-2) in the SWJCFC Championship.

Other games

Ellsworth (3-6) at Butler (5-2), 1 p.m.

Dodge City (3-7, 2-4) at Highland (5-5, 2-4), 1 p.m.

Garden City (4-5, 2-4) at Coffeyville (8-2, 5-1), 7 p.m.

KCAC

No. 18 Friends (7-2, 6-1) at No. 14 Ottawa (7-2, 6-1), 1:30 p.m. – The biggest KCAC game of the year so far, but it’s not a guarantee that the winner of this game will win its last game of the season. Friends hosts Saint Mary, a team it has struggled with in the past, and Ottawa travels to No. 22 Tabor.

Other games

Sterling (5-4, 5-2) at Southwestern (1-8, 1-6), 1:30 p.m.

Kansas Wesleyan (2-7, 2-5) at Saint Mary (3-6, 3-4), 1:30 p.m.
