Washburn upsets No. 4 Pittsburg State
Washburn pulled off the upset win over No. 4 Pittsburg State, 28-21, in the Ichabods first game in Pittsburg since 2011.
Washburn senior running back and Kansas transfer Brandon Bourbon had his best game as an Ichabod, rushing for 143 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries.
Washburn (2-1, 2-1 MIAA) also got a big game from quarterback Derek McGinnis, who threw for 283 yards, three touchdowns an no interceptions.
Washburn’s defense put pressure on Pittsburg State (2-1, 2-1) all day, churning up seven tackles for loss and forcing quarterback John Roderique Jr. into his first subpar game as a starter, going 16 of 33 for 256 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

No. 5 Butler 70, Fort Scott 20 — Oklahoma transfer Justice Hansen was solid once again, rushing for 152 yards and three touchdowns and throwing for 180 yards and one touchdown in Butler’s blowout road win at Fort Scott. It was Hansen’s second start after leading Butler to an upset blowout of then-No. 3 Hutchinson last Saturday.
Butler improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in Jayhawk Conference play with the win, and now have three straight home games against Air Force Prep, Iowa Central and No. 16 Dodge City.
