Fort Hays shocks No. 8 Pittsburg State

Fort Hays State scored on a fumble recovery by Ed Williams on its first possession after a Pittsburg State interception in the Tigers’ end zone, and that was all the scoring needed as Fort Hays grabbed the MIAA upset of the season and its first win over the Gorillas since 1978.

The Gorillas managed their only points on a pair of field goals by Connor Frazell in the first half.

Fort Hays’ defense held Pitt State’s offense to just 80 rushing yards in front of 11,489 fans in Pittsburg — the third-largest crowd in school hisotry.

Pitt State (3-1 overall, 3-1 MIAA) tried a 55-yard field goal with just over three minutes to play, but it was blocked by Daniel Lindsey. Fort Hays (3-1, 3-1) was led by Joita Te’i’s three sacks.
