Vetle Maroy wins NJCAA golf tournament
Vetle Maroy had his poorest round of the tournament Friday, but held on for a two-stroke victory at the NJCAA Division I men’s golf tournament at Sand Creek Station in Newton.
Maroy, from Odessa (Texas), shot 1-over 73 in the final round after sub-72 rounds his first three days. He finished at 281, two shots ahead of two Eastern Florida State golfers, Kerry Sweeney and Michael DeMorat.
Hutchinson’s Chase Coble was the top Kansas finisher, placing 12th at 4-over 292.
Indian Hills (Iowa), with four golfers finishing among the top 23 individuals, won the team title by three strokes over McLennan (Texas). Indian Hills shot 301 on Friday and finished with a 72-hole total of 1,162. Dodge City (1,195) finished seventh and Hutchinson (1,204) was ninth in the 19-team field.
