Seward, Coffeyville women win NJCAA openers
Big scoring games from individual players lifted Kansas teams to a 2-0 record during the first day of the NJCAA Division I women’s tournament Monday in Salina.
Kyndal Davis scored 30 points and made 12 of 19 shots in Seward County’s 89-57 victory over Lake Region State (N.D.). Jayhawk Conference rival Coffeyville followed with a 90-78 victory over Northeastern (Colo.), getting 30 points each from Devin Cosper and Chanel Khammarath.
Khammarath made 11 of 19 shots and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Coffeyville into a second-round game Wednesday against Chipola (Fla.). Seward will meet Walters State at 8:30 Tuesday night.
The undefeated Hutchinson women begin the tournament against South Georgia Tech at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
In the men’s tournament, Butler Community College plays its opener at Hutchinson at 10 Tuesday morning against Georgia Highlands.
