Emporia State beats Fort Hays State to advance in NCAA II women’s tournament
Kelly Moten scored 20 points to go along with 13 rebounds to lead No. 9 Emporia State to a come-from-behind 66-61 victory over No. 6 Fort Hays State in the finals of the NCAA Division II Central Regional on Monday night in Hays.
The victory puts Emporia State in the tournament’s Elite Eight against West Texas A&M on March 24 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Hornets (28-4) trailed by nine points in the first half before beginning an 11-0 run that gave them the lead for good. It was ESU’s 10th straight win.
Kathryn Flott added 13 points and 10 rebounds for ESU, while Addie Lackey added 13 points.
Fort Hays State (30-4), the top seed in the regional, was led by center Kate Lehman, who ended her career with 27 points and five blocks.
