Tabor women pull off second upset in NAIA II tournament

The Tabor women’s basketball team beat its second higher-seeded opponent of the NAIA Division II tournament, defeating Southern Oregon 72-65 Friday in Sioux City, Iowa.

Taylor Hurd came off the bench to score 21 points, with Tabor teammates Tena Lowen adding 17 points and 10 rebounds and Tonisha Dean 14 points.

Southern Oregon (27-5) scored the first eight points, but Tabor quickly fought back and took a 27-25 halftime lead.

Tabor still led 31-30 with 17:39 to play, then scored nine straight points to build the lead for good. Mallory Zuercher made a three-pointer, followed by a basket from Loewen and two from Dean.

Tabor (21-12) advances to Saturday’s 1 p.m. quarterfinal against Briar Cliff (25-9) of Iowa.
