How much money is on the line for KU's Bill Self as Jayhawks enter the Final Four?
Kansas head coach Bill Self has big bonus money on the line as the Jayhawks enter the Final Four.
Self is already among the highest-paid coaches in men's college basketball, according to USA Today. This year he made $4.9 million, USA Today reported, making him the fourth-highest-paid coach.
When the Jayhawks reached the Final Four by beating Duke in overtime, Self earned a $150,000 "incentive payment," according to his contract. That's in addition to the $50,000 bonus from when KU won the Big 12 regular season championship and the $25,000 bonus from when the team won the Big 12 tournament championship.
In total, that's $225,000 in bonus money.
And he could still earn more.
While Self's contract does not include a bonus if the team makes it to the championship game by beating Villanova in the Final Four, he would earn a $200,000 bonus if the Jayhawks win the NCAA Tournament.
Self isn't the only basketball coach from the Sunflower State who has made some bonus money throughout the tournament.
K-State head basketball coach Bruce Weber earned a $430,000 bonus in addition to his $2.15 million salary for making it to the Elite Eight, according to his contract.
Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall received an additional $36,000 to his $3 million salary for coaching the Shockers in a tournament game, according to his contract.
