An important recruiting weekend for Bill Self and Kansas began on Wednesday.

LaGerald Vick, a former SMU commit, is set to be on campus starting Wednesday for an official visit. Vick, a 6-foot-5 wing from Memphis, is coming off a visit to K-State and will visit Kentucky later this weekend.

Vick is an intriguing prospect for a couple reasons. Originally a member of the 2015 class, Vick committed to SMU and planned to spend the 2015-16 season at a prep school.

Now those plans might have changed. Maybe. At any rate, if Vick had concerns about becoming qualified for the 2015 class, those appear to have subsided.

“He has qualified but he has not decided on 2015 yet,” Norton Hurd, Vick’s AAU coach, told recruiting site Zagsblog this week.

If Vick does choose to re-join the 2015 class and go to school this fall, it appears to be down to KU, K-State and Kentucky.

Another 2015 prospect, shooting guard Kobie Eubanks, also plans to visit Kansas this weekend, according to Rivals.com.

Eubanks, listed at 6 feet 5, 215 pounds, is ranked as the nation’s 101st best prospect in the 2015 class, according to Rivals. He was originally a member of the 2014 class and committed to Baylor. But academic issues forced him to spend a prep year at Elev8 Sports Academy in Florida.

Kansas has two remaining scholarships available after signing freshman forward Carlton Bragg and freshman big man Cheick Diallo. Self could choose to pocket at least one of those scholarships and have it available for the 2016 class, but it’s not like the Jayhawks won’t have plenty of scholarships available.

Perry Ellis, Jamari Traylor and Hunter Mickelson will be seniors next year, and freshman forward Diallo projects as a possible — emphasis on possible — one-and-done player. In other words, the Jayhawks will have plenty of room to go hard after their 2016 targets.
