Hello, Fred?
Kansas played four guards during stretches on Saturday, with Frank Mason, Devonte Graham, Wayne Selden and Brannen Greene on the floor. It was a strategy Bill Self discussed with a visitor to his office on Thursday, Chicago Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg, formerly of Iowa State.
“He said that could be good for you guys,” Self said. “We didn’t do it much, but I thought it was good for us in the little bit that we did it.”
Hoiberg was taking a break during the NBA’s All-Star weekend. His daughter attends KU and works in the basketball office.
No lottos in the rotation
If Kansas finds its way to a 12th straight Big 12 title, it will do so likely without an NBA Draft lottery pick in the rotation. The Jayhawks have had at least one every year since 2010.
“This year, to me, would mean more maybe because this is the best our league’s been,” Bill Self said. “Our personnel is good, really good, but we’ve run some lottery picks out there in the past. We’re not running them out there right now. It’s more of really grind-it-out team type effort.”
